COVID-19 Resources

EMDC is meeting the economic crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic hands-on. As a result, we’re providing enhanced support to the businesses, communities and people who need it most. With a swift shift to virtual services in 2020, we:

Provided technical support and distributed $46.2 million in CARES Act funding directly to businesses. Made possible by our partnerships with the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development’s Economic Recovery Grant and the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Revolving Loan Fund.
Hosted online workshops that connected 907 total attendees with career advising, and local career and education opportunities. Made possible by our partnerships with the Maine Department of Labor, Northeastern Workforce Development Board, and Central Western Maine Workforce Development Board.
Served 100 communities. Made possible by our Community & Business Services team, which was re-framed in 2020 with CARES Act funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
Connected 512 total businesses and partners with free resources and contracting opportunities. Made possible by EMDC’s Maine PTAC program, through funding from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Supported people laid off due to COVID-19 in 5 counties with individualized services. Made possible through a partnership with Central Western Maine Workforce Development Board and Coastal Counties Inc. Learn more here.

EMDC Service Updates

3/12/20: Taking into account the recommendations from Governor Janet Mills’ office, CEO Lee Umphrey sends a message to all staff giving them the option to work from home.
3/16/20: Following recommendations from Governor Janet Mills’ office and the Maine CDC, CEO Lee Umphrey and Board Chair Commissioner William Shorey share protocols with our Board of Directors and staff.
3/16/20: To keep our staff and clients healthy and safe, many staff are working from home; offices are closed to visitors; and meetings, workshops and events are postponed until further notice. We continue to provide services while we monitor recommendations and follow best practices.
3/16/20: Businesses interested in government contracting? and current clients continue to to be supported by our Maine PTAC team through one-on-one counseling sessions via phone, email and video conference.
3/17/20: Business lending clients who need assistance with their loans, and all businesses interested in the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Economic Injury Disaster Loans, continue to be supported by our lending team.
